113-1 Academic Year New Plan of 24-credit English Program at Center for English Language Teaching
Introduction
Since 1966, Wenzao University has been known for her excellent quality of foreign language instruction, in particular making students become good learners in both English and professional development. At Wenzao, all four-year college students have to take a 24-credit General English program except those whose language proficiency is over the institutional benchmark. In order to provide our students with CEFR-B2 or above to have a more flexible course selection and more dynamic learning contexts, especially a wide variety of ESP courses, a new learning system is thus designed which was implemented in 110 academic year. In 2022, the levelization of General English was slightly modified to match the CEFR levels.
Freshmen are placed in levels of L1 to L6 if their scores are under 240 out of a full score of 360.

New Plan: Since 2022
In order to cope with the institutional policy and national bilingual education policy, started from September 2021, while the original L7-L9 courses were turned into ESP-oriented courses provided by Center for English Language Teaching (CELT), EMI-based courses are provided by other departments/colleges, such as Department of English, Department of Applied Chinese, Department of Southeast Asian Studies, Department of Digital Content Application Management, to name a few. Such flexibility of cross-disciplinary study may allow students to explore more profession-based learning and thus they are able to fulfill the 24-credit program. Each ESP/EMI-based course is designed as a two-four credit/hour course. It is expected that students will increase their knowledge, broaden their world vision, and develop solid competences in terms of personal interest development, career preparation, international awareness, and language performance.
Remarks:
Students of the four-year program in the Day Division (1) whose CSEPT scores reached 240 or above or whose English proficiency is certified as being equivalent to CEFR B2 or above, or (2) who are taking (or have ever taken) General English Level 6 are eligible to take ESP (English for Specific Purposes) courses or EMI (English Medium Instruction) courses. These credits earned can be included in the 24-credit required General English program.
Those who have taken a 3-credit ESP/EMI course may consider taking a 1-credit micro course to make up for the 4 credits of the General English program on the semester base.
