2020 English Micro-film Contest: Beautiful Acts

  1. Purpose of the Contest: This contest is intended to guide students to observe beautiful acts in daily life to express friendliness to other human beings, both the natural and social environments, and the universe, while immersing them in the cultivation of humanities and encouraging them to apply language through authentic and spontaneous communication in English.

 

  1. Organizer:  Center for English Language Teaching, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages

 

  1. Due Date for Micro-film Submission:  by 17:00 p.m. May 15 (Friday), 2020.

 

  1. Registration for Contest
  1.  Qualifications of Contestants:
  1. Contestants must be registered full-time undergraduate students of Wenzao University in the Day 4-year Program taking General English from Level 1 to Level 9 (including international students).
  2. The contest is open to individuals or groups (of a maximum of 4 members).
  3. Inter-departmental groupings (i.e. a team mixed with members from different departments, classes, or levels) are acceptable.
  1.  Restrictions
    1. The organizer has the right to terminate the right to participate if any image or text of the content includes insults, pornography, violence, or anything that is otherwise inappropriate, or infringes on copyright or intellectual property rights.
  1. Contestants must submit a new entry with original materials that have not appeared in any other competitions.
  1. Registration Procedures
  1. Email to wenzaoetlc@gmail.com  the following documents before the due date and mark in the subject line [Register for Micro-film Contest “Beautiful Acts” (participant’s name)].
        1. Contest Registration Form (See Attachment 1)
        2. Agreement of Copyright Authorization (See Attachment 2)
  2. Videos will be uploaded to contestants’ own YouTube channels with privacy set as “Private” and the links are to be shared in the Contest Registration Form.

  1. Timeframe
  1. Registration & Submission: by 17:00 May 15 (Friday), 2020
  1. Winners Announcement: by 17:00 June 5 (Friday), 2020 on CELT webpage
  1. Specifications
  1. Theme: A video about beautiful acts in life combining the application of the English language, under a title in English given by the maker.
  2. Video Format:
        1. A title should be given following the pattern either of “A Beautiful Act: _____” or of “Beautiful Acts: _____” as in the example of “A Beautiful Act: Spreading Happiness”.
        2. All kinds of audio-visual facilities can be applied in the making of the film. Equipment such as tablets, smart phones, or cameras can be used; however, there should always be a main plot against some background music.
        3. The topic and “The End” should be added to the beginning and the end of the film. The length of the video should not exceed 3 minutes.
        4. The video must come in MP4 and HD (1920×1080).
        5. Names of the team and individual team members should not appear in any part of the video; however, the emblem of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages should appear after “The End.”
        6. The content of the video should be presented in English only and provided with English subtitles.
  1. Criteria for Evaluation
  1. Content (subject agreement, creativity) 40%
  2. Production technology (acting, shooting, editing, and post production): 35%
  3. Language expression(usage, pronunciation, intonation, fluency): 25%    

*If two teams have the same scores, the ranking will be determined by the results in the criteria in the priority of content, production, and language.

 

  1. Prizes

The top three winners/winning groups will receive rewards and certificates.

The 1st Prize: NTD$ 2,500 and a certificate

The 2nd Prize: NTD$ 1,500 and a certificate

The 3rd Prize: NTD$ 1,000 and a certificate

All contestants will receive certificates of participation.
